Watch a PGA instructor groove a tour stroke on a garage floor
No green. No daylight. No range. Just a putter, a patch of garage floor, and a rail that only lets the putter move one way.
- Trains the inside-to-square-to-inside path used by the best putters
- Tells you instantly when the face or path is off
- Works with blades, mallets, and long putters, right or left handed
The full drill, start to finish, in under a minute.
Why instructors keep one on the floor
Teaching a stroke path with words is hard. Handing someone a rail that physically won't allow the wrong path takes about four seconds — and the student feels the difference on the first stroke instead of the fiftieth.
“Every tour pro putts on an arc. Now you can train it at home.”Tom Patri — GOLF Magazine Top 100 Instructor
The 2-minute drill, step by step
One hand at a time, then both. Heel side, then toe side. That's the whole thing — and it's why it fits into a commercial break.
Heel against the arc
Set the heel of the putter against the far side of the arc at the center brace. Lead hand only.
- Five strokes back and through to the first brace
- Five more out to the second brace
- Let the rail do the correcting — don't steer
Repeat the pattern
Same sequence with the trail hand only, then again with both hands on the club.
- Trains stroke path, balanced tempo, and centered face control
- Single-hand reps expose which hand is manipulating the face
Toe against the arc
Move the toe to the near side of the arc and run the full sequence again.
- Builds symmetrical movement and face awareness
- Smooths the release through impact
What the rail is actually doing
Most missed putts come from a stroke that changes shape from putt to putt. The arc removes the variable.
A path you can't fake
The curve comes from the conic-section math of Apollonius of Perga, projected from a point between your shoulders to the back of the ball. Ride the rail and the putter is on plane by definition.
Feedback on the same stroke
Off path, you feel it immediately. No video, no app, no waiting to see where the ball finished. Every rep either confirms the motion or corrects it.
A mirror for your setup
The attached mirror shows eye position, shoulder alignment, and head stability while you stroke. Remove it when you want to work on feel alone.
The three misses this drill is built for
Misaligned eyes and shoulders
Poor setup produces pushes, pulls, and inconsistent aim before the putter ever moves. The mirror makes a square address position repeatable.
Inconsistent stroke path
An off-path stroke makes it nearly impossible to start putts on your intended line, however good your read was.
Uneven stroke length
A long backswing with a short follow-through wrecks tempo and distance control. The braces give both sides of the stroke a fixed reference.

Before you buy
Will it fit my putter?
Yes. Blades, mallets, and long or broomstick putters all work, and you can run either the heel or the toe along the rail.
Does the arc adjust to my stroke?
No, and that's deliberate. The fixed arc represents the inside-to-square-to-inside path used on tour. Two minutes at a time is what ingrains it.
Do I have to use the mirror?
No. Attach it when you want feedback on setup, remove it when you want to work purely on feel.
Is it portable?
At 33 inches and 2.2 lbs it's light but not pocket-sized — it's built for home practice and pre-round warm-ups. For the golf bag, the 9 oz Travel T3 is the model to look at.
